Melissa Maañao,
Masters in Teaching in Choral (K-12) & General Music (K-12)
Thank you for visiting my Educational Website, formerly known as Melismatic Studios!
About Melissa...
After receiving a Bachelor of Music and also as Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Operations Management at Washington State University (Cum Laude) in 2004, I began my professional career singing on cruise ships around the world after being hired by Norwegian Cruise Lines at an audition in Seattle in 2005. Since then, my employers have included Azamara Cruises, American West Steamboat Company, Village Theatre, Seattle Musical Theatre, Bainbridge Performing Arts, Cafe Nordo, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Harlequin Productions, and Florida Studio Theatre.
In addition to performing, I have taught singing for many years and have musical directed for several educational programs, including Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Studio East, Kidstage, Village Theatre's Institute and KIDStage programs and at Seattle area schools including Mount Rainier High School, Arbor Heights Elementary, and The Evergreen School.
Why I Became a Certified Teacher..
I was often the only person of color amongst my colleagues and cast mates. As a child, I was unaware of the privilege I carried with my weekly piano, guitar, and voice lessons, and I am grateful to my parents for investing in my training. My career has taken me all over the world, and I know that it would not have been possible without the countless private lessons and amazing teachers along the way.
I have a passion for the performing arts and working with kids, especially from underrepresented communities. I want to make music and singing accessible and meaningful to all students..
In my entire educational experience from grade school to graduate studies,
I have had only one teacher of color.
This teacher ended up being the most influential teacher in my life.
I hope to inspire my students the way he inspired me.
